1st Battalion

The 1st Battalion (1 LANCS for short) is a mechanised Infantry battalion (600 men and women) of the Regular Army, stationed with its families in Somme Barracks, Catterick. 1 LANCS is equipped with Bulldog Armoured Personnel Carriers. In 2007-8 it carried out a successful operational tour in Basrah, Iraq.

2nd Battalion

The 2nd Battalion (2 LANCS) is also a Regular Army battalion, based with its families in Episkopi in Cyprus. 2 LANCS is a Light Role Battalion trained and equipped for fast, flexible operations, moving in a variety of transport including helicopters.

4th Battalion

The 4th Battalion (4 LANCS) is the Territorial Army Infantry unit in the North West of England. 4 LANCS is based in four company locations and four detachment locations, totalling over 500 men and women. The Battalion supports the Regular Army, both at home and abroad. The battalion has been involved in operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and United Nations peacekeeping in Cyprus. The battalion provides assistance to civil authorities in times of crisis, such as floods and other disasters.

The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment was formed in July 2006 following the amalgamation of the King’s Own Royal Border, King’s and Queen’s Lancashire Regiments. It was the first of the new infantry regiments formed through recent restructuring of the British Army’s infantry forces to be presented with new Colours.

Privates in the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment are known as Kingsmen; uniform buttons display the emblem of the King's Regiment - the Fleur de Lys; the white horse of Hanover is displayed on the colours; the motto of the new regiment remains:

'Nec Aspera Terrent'. (Difficulties be Damned)
